by Crista Cowan

Saturday, October 5th

Sachem Public Library Community Room

150 Holbrook Road, Holbrook, NY

The DNA Genealogy Group of Long Island is pleased to present Ancestry.com’s own Barefoot Genealogist, Crista Cowan. If you are one of the 26 million Americans who have taken a DNA test, these two talks will help you figure out how to use the results from your AncestryDNA test to expand your family history research.

Do you want to learn the basics of genealogical DNA testing?
Please join us for Crista’s first presentation:

Getting Started with AncestryDNA
10:30 am – 12:00 pm

In this session, you will learn how your test is processed and the basics of genetic inheritance. You will learn what is included with your results and how best to be prepared to use them to the fullest to make personal discoveries. We will also discuss how Ancestry safeguards your privacy through the entire process.

(noon-2:30) Lunch Break: please enjoy the library café or visit a local restaurant

If you are ready to take the next steps in your DNA and family history research, please join us for
Crista’s second presentation:

Getting the Most Out of Your AncestryDNA Results
 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm

In this session, you will learn about how to use your DNA Match List and other tools that Ancestry provides to use this powerful piece of genealogical evidence to continue to make new family history discoveries.

If you are planning to attend both talks, there are a number of great places to grab lunch in the area. If you are coming from the city, the library is a quick (2 miles) Uber/taxi ride from the Ronkonkoma train station.
